Helanie on Horseback: Create Awesome Experience

Yesterday I took the day off riding, but my knees did not want to cooperate. Instead of disappointment, however, I embraced a different kind of day than the one I had expected. We filled water tanks at a nearby farm, then I and a new friend drove quads up high on the Bryce Plateau. We got to experience spectacular views—snow and a beautiful red rock formation. Inspired by the awesomeness, I raised myself into a giving spirit. I decided to […]

Helanie on Horseback: Thankfulness

On the second morning of our horseback-riding adventure along the border between Utah and Arizona, I rose and shot this short video. Hear the birds and the stream, but best of all the supporting silence. The perfect sensations of peace and quiet are having a rejuvenating effect on me.

Helanie on Horseback: Managing Millennials

As a boomer my research into developing and managing millennials is top of mind. Sitting here in Las Vegas, I realize we need to make space for millennials’ way of working. When you are passionate about what you do, you are “always on.” That does not mean you forget about relaxation, but rather you integrate life and work. Helanie on Horseback: Breathing stress away

Before we even saddled up and hit the trail, I met Kaja Michelson. She offers 15-minute Skype sessions at no charge in which she helps you relax, reduce stress, and master your physical, emotional, and mental state with proper breathing. I thought I knew how to breathe until Kaja spent a few minutes with me. Afterwards I interviewed her, so that she could give you the gist of what she has to say about breathing stress away. Now take a […]

Helanie on Horseback: Packing my slacks

I’m about to head west on a week-long trek over rugged terrain on the back of a horse. Along the way I will share my observations on how such a spectacular change of scenery affects my outlook on life and leadership. As I get ready to leave, here’s what I already know. When you unplug and free yourself from life’s everyday stresses, especially doing a little strenuous physical exercise, your come back focused and sharp. It’s always worked this way […]

Helanie on Horseback: The Value of Effective Communication

You can imagine the interesting dynamics that take place when you gather a group of people and spend day and night together for several days. There are bound to be conflicts and differences of opinion. Leaders who master the art of understanding individual needs and wants and try to find common ground are the ones who build great teams.

Helanie on Horseback: Intimate Connections

Today I met Mel, the founder and head honcho of the Three Parks Spectacular Ride. He created this amazing tour more than 30 years ago. He has also played various parts in 31 movies. A quiet and caring character, Mel has given me the nickname “Panther Fast.” Mel’s son Justin has now taken over the company. They inspired me to reflect on intimacy as Justin shared with me what his Mormon faith believes about strong family connections—the family unit having […]
