Two Out of Five for Leadership Intimacy

Study after study has confirmed the connection between employee engagement and increased productivity, performance, and customer satisfaction, along with the reduction of absenteeism and turnover. Therefore any company that wants to compete successfully today must go beyond fostering job satisfaction and ensure that it fully engages its employees. But is that enough? Especially after your competitors have embraced employee engagement? 3 Crucial Questions to Ask Your Boomers

Before they take to the beach for the rest of their natural lives, you might want to take aside your soon-to-retire executives from the Baby Boomer generation and learn a few things from their experience. Consider, for example, the following kinds of questions: What have you learned about change? Change is a constant that younger workers have not had the time to experience or fully appreciate. 4 Uncommon Tips for Stronger Meeting Focus

A Lesson for Leaders from an 8-foot Bride

I’ve always argued that relationships trump skills. Eye-opening evidence for this comes from a street performer, the 8-foot Bride, turned rock star Amanda Palmer. Her brand of wildly creative and courageous intimacy trumps business as usual and provides a lesson for leaders. Every time anyone completes such a cycle, the bad habit is reinforced by making the response more automatic and immediate.

How to Defeat Deception

Deception is everywhere. The most ubiquitous example—advertising. No doubt you learned at an early age that marketers use all sorts of guises and even outright lies to trick you into buying their products. Not all advertising deceives as egregiously as the package illustrated in the comparison below. Of course, advertising is not the only deceiver you regularly encounter. If you’re lucky, only a few of your peers, managers, suppliers, clients, and employees pursue hidden agendas, play victim, divert your attention, […]
