Help your managers set high-quality goals for 2018

Research shows that 45% of Americans make New Year’s Resolutions, while only 8% are successful in in achieving them. Around this time of the year and into early the new year, your leaders will be working with their employees to set goals. Hopefully your managers and employees will partner to write SMART goals.

If you want to really help your leaders succeed in developing actionable goals this year, encourage your leaders to implement these 4 tips:

  1. Reduce the size of each goal by breaking it down into a number of sub-goals (milestones) which can be achieved along the way.
  2. Identify the first step to be taken towards accomplishing the goal.
  3. Develop consistent habits. Take consistent action towards goal achievement over a longer time period. Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
  4. Celebrate what to feel even better about your life and yourself.
