Every major religion and essentially every philosophy, ethical system, and human culture has embraced what has come to be known as the Golden Rule.

boy girl share drinkIt seems that humans understood long ago that they tend to respond to the way they are treated with similar treatment. No surprise, then, that a rule advising good treatment should appear. When you follow the Golden Rule, you will find that, in general, you are treated well in return.

Unfortunately bad treatment still triggers bad treatment. And there doesn’t seem to be a rule for handling bad treatment named after a precious metal.

Leadership Attraction Powers

Responding in kind to bad treatment is a bad idea. It does nothing useful and generates more bad behavior. If that weren’t bad enough, when you respond to someone who has wronged you with similar treatment, you allow that person to control you. You allow them to make you behave in a way you would prefer not to.

In our Leadership Attraction Powers Workshops, participants practice how to pause before reacting as treated, when the treatment is bad. They learn that they always have a choice as to how they respond. They practice with other leaders how to react rationally rather than emotionally in confrontations.

But reacting rationally represents only the response to disrespectful treatment. Next you learn how to teach other people how to treat you and to define and negotiate the kind of treatment you expect. To do this, we help you develop your Leadership Attraction Powers, or more precisely, to dial up those you underuse and dial down those you overuse.

If you’d like develop these skills, join us at our next Leadership Attraction Powers Workshop.

You might also find it fascinating that you can pinpoint the most common ways you react by completing a brief, 12-question Mini Leadership Attraction Profile.

If you feel that your reactionary responses are so ingrained for you to improve your relationships with colleagues, friends, or family members, think again. I make the bold promise that we can show you how to be in total management of your behavior.
